WHITBY Cricket Club's two overseas players have been helping local school children brush up on their skills.
Over the past couple of months, Aussie Sean Stevenson and quick bowler, Pakistani Qasim Khurshid, have been delivering sessions in local primary and secondary schools, which has been funded through an Extended Schools programme.
Fylingdales, Goathland, West Cliff, St Hilda's, Ruswarp, East Whitby and Stakesby Schools have formed a link with Whitby Cricket Club through the programme and the School Sport Partnership, with Gemma Drummond and Sion Parry.
It is hoped this will develop next year once the club receives its accreditation. Pupils at Egton, St Hedda's and Lythe Schools have also received sessions.
Next year they will link up with newly accredited Mulgrave Cricket Club along with six other primary schools as they form part the national PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) strategy.
Eskdale, Caedmon and Whitby Community College have also benefitted from the coaching.
In all, 13 schools have received sessions with almost 400 pupils taking part.
Gemma Drummond said: "Pupils have responded very well to Sean and Qasim and I'm sure they will have motivated some youngsters who would not usually have been interested in cricket."
Sean and Qasim are also delivering sessions over the summer at Whitby Cricket Club.
