Raw power leads Whitby to glory

WHITBY'S young cricketers emerged triumphant in the Whitby Junior Cricket League's six-a-side Raw Trophy at Fylingdales.
It was a glorious day for cricket, with hardly a cloud in the sky and there was a crowd of about 150 to watch the event.
All nine Junior League clubs were represented and in a preliminary round match, Fylingdales defeated Hinderwell by 49 runs to 47.

In the first round there were victories for Danby, Whitby, Glaisdale and Staithes over Mulgrave, Fylingdales, Sleights and Castleton respectively.
In the first semi-final, Whitby beat Danby with an over to spare by 25 runs to 24.

The second semi-final was very close and was decided on the last ball.
Staithes needed a four to win but failed to get it, leaving Glaisdale winners by 40 runs to 37.

Whitby soon raced to 46 and in the fourth over, Mathew Dowson completed the victory with a huge six which cleared the ground, landing in the adjoining road, leaving Whitby as champions by 52 runs to 47.

First round: Danby 43 Mulgrave 42, Whitby 38 Fylingdales 37, Glaisdale 49 Sleights 45, Staithes 65 Castleton 12.
Semi-finals: Whitby 25 Danby 24, Glaisdale 40 Staithes 37.
Final: Whitby 52 Glaisdale 47.
