FOOTBALL fledgings have been showing off their skills at Stakesby Primary School.
Sixteen teams representing schools from around the Whitby area battled it out for two trophies – the cup and the plate.
Hawsker Primary School were victorious in the cup competition while Ruswarp School won the plate.
The annual tournament for U11 boys is now well established and Stan Jackson, headteacher of the host school Stakesby, was pleased with the enthusiasm and sportsmanship the children showed.
"It was played in a really good spirit and everyone enjoyed it.
"It was popular with all the children who were very enthusiastic," he said.
Mr Jackson was also encouraged by the level of skill on show and hinted the future may still be bright for English football, saying.
"The quality of football was really high and we could have seen some Whitby Town players of the future or even international players."
