ROBIN Hood's Bay Victorian enthusiasts are already looking forward to the winter with their annual charity celebration weekend.
This year, the Robin Hood’s Bay branch of the RNLI will take over planning and full responsibility for organising the event, with the support of the village’s tourism association, as they did last year.
Former celebrations have featured magic lantern shows, Punch and Judy, art exhibitions and a variety of stalls selling seasonal and Victorian craftware and the same successful formula is likely to be repeated this year.
In addition, both residents and visitors from the oldest to the youngest don Victorian costume while, in keeping with the Christmas spirit, a donkey giving rides to the children is disguised as a reindeer.
The event is on 5,6 and 7 December and RNLI spokesman Jim Foster said: “It’s proved successful in boosting trade for local businesses in the off-peak winter months – and it looks nice in the snow.
“But it’s not purely a fund-raiser for charity – it also provides an enjoyable weekend and is successful on many fronts.”
Last year’s event raised more than £2,000 for the RNLI but other charitable organisations are encouraged to make use of the celebrations to raise their own funds.
Although this year’s will also be in aid of the RNLI, the main fund-raising proceeds are donated to a variety of charities in other years.
The RNLI is also appealing for volunteers to help with the event especially for stewarding.
