TWO seagulls have been killed in a suspected airgun attack in Robin Hood's Bay.
The police and RSPCA were called after the birds were found dead near Littlewood Terrace on 9 May.

The birds were spotted by a member of the public who reported it to the police who handed the birds over to the RSPCA.

Three more seagulls were found dead in Saltburn three days later, and also appear to have been shot.

RSPCA deputy chief inspector Mark Gent said: "These are worrying incidents in which a number of wild birds appeared to have been deliberately targeted and made to suffer. We are appealing for information to find out exactly what happened.

Any circumstance where an animal or bird has been targeted by an airgun is of concern to us. RSPCA inspectors regularly deal with irresponsible airgun-related incidents, although many afflicted wild animals will hide away to die painful and lingering deaths.

"If anyone saw, heard or knows anything about these incidents we are keen to hear from them urgently."

Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA cruelty and advice line on (0300) 1234 999.
