A NEW television series is set to feature Whitby and the surrounding area as it explores the array of fresh produce available in Yorkshire.
Coastal Kitchen will be shown on ITV Yorkshire next Sunday and features award-winning chef Chris Coubrough as he travels across the region cooking-up delicious dishes along the way.

Chris, who recently appeared on Channel 4’s Eating for Britain, begins his travels in Whitby, where he aims to discover the secret of the perfect fish and chips.

He also finds out about the town’s famous captain, James Cook.

His next stop is Robin Hood’s Bay where there’s a sizzling barbeque and fresh lobster on the menu.

He said: “This has been a fabulous series to make.

“It is the first time I have ever filmed in Yorkshire, and I have to say I loved it.

“Driving across the moors and then descending into places such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby was just incredible.”

As he continues his journey through the rest of Yorkshire, Chris stops at Egton Bridge where he joins in with the annual gooseberry competition, using some of the fruit to make a tart which he then serves up to the Staithes lifeboat crew.

While wreck-fishing in Staithes with a group of local fishermen, Chris manages to catch an enormous ling which he then pan-fries on a driftwood fire on the beach.

Chris added: “The ling was the size of my leg and absolutely delicious, like a very flavoursome cod.”

The series will run for 10 episodes and is produced by Norwich-based company, Imago Productions.

Chris runs the Crown Hotel, in Norfolk, and the Randolph Hotel, in Suffolk.

“It was great to see the contrast between Yorkshire and East Anglia,” he added.

“In Norfolk there are these vast skies and the most incredible light. In Yorkshire, there is such a sense of history – beautiful villages perched on rocky outcrops and nooks and crannies where you can discover the most fantastic local foods.”

Coastal Kitchen starts at 6pm for viewers in the channel’s Yorkshire area.
