ONE of the most iconic items of the early 90s Indie music scene could be stashed away in Robin Hood's Bay.
Ian Brown, frontman of the Stone Roses, is responsible for one of the most important British Albums of the last three decades, the eponymous Stone Roses.

Released in 1989 to huge critical acclaim the album was the forerunner to Britpop and inspired many bands including Oasis.

Throughout the promotion of the album and subsequent music videos Brown wore a white T-shirt, with a Bank of England bank notes design from shoulder to shoulder, including the video to Fools Gold, perhaps the band most famous song.

The t-shirt became synonymous with the band and replicas were all the rage though the tale of the original is slightly less straight forward.

On a visit to the region a year after the album's release Brown gave one fan the most treasured of souvineers.

"It was in Robin Hood's Bay in 1990, I definitely gave it to a Geordie and he had brown hair," he said this week.

"I gave it to some kid, but that's about all I can remember.

"I always slightly regretted doing that. That T-shirt had a lot of good memories attached to it, so it would be ace to get it back again."

There has been no sign of the t-shirt since then, despite it being worth vast sums of money at auction which is why Brown thinks it is still in the hands of the young boy, who would now be in his late 20s early 30s.

Now he is hoping the youngster will be willing to part with the garment – even if only temporarily – and possibly meet the singer too.

If you are the boy in question or know who it may be then contact Carl Gavaghan on (01947) 829914.
