ROBIN Hood's Bay is to relaunch its cubs and scouts groups and lots of fun is promised for all the young new members.
After a two year sabbatical from ‘Bay, Sally Brown Suzanne Lister and Sam Glaysher have taken the bold decision to resurrect the 1st Robin Hood’s Bay Cubs and Scouts for the benefit of all the boys and girls in the area aged between eight and 14.

Stuart Matthewson and his wife Julie, who are both teachers in the area, have also pledged their support and are keen to be involved, particularly with the scouts.

Fliers have already been circulated around schools and Andrew Wilson, the movement’s regional development officer, has planned to give talks in assemblies during the first week of the school term.

Leader training is now well under way and everyone involved hopes they will be adequately equipped for a full programme of activities.

Already planned are scavenge hunts, cycle rides on the railway line, lobster pot making, wild game demonstrations and a disco.

The lease is to be renewed on the original scout hut behind the village hall and many locals have come forward offering their services with help in renovating it.

The sessions are to start again on Tuesday evenings with cubs running from 6pm to 7pm and scouts from 7pm to 8pm.

Organiser Sam Glaysher said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to get all of the local children active and involved in a long-standing and worthwhile association.

“A parental helper rota system is key to the success of all the groups so please be prepared to commit to a session here and there if you wish your child to attend

“In addition to the helper rota, we are looking for anyone to come forward with a particular skill or interest that could liven up the sessions along with donations of any unwanted uniform.

“As the Scout Association covers insurance for firework events we are also on the lookout for a suitable location for a 5 November bonfire night, another local event sorely missed by many.”

The initial meeting for cubs and scouts will be more of a social event and will be held on Tuesday in the dock at Robin Hood’s Bay or in the Bay Hotel bottom bar if the weather is poor.

Fees for the first term will be £12 for the six sessions.

There will be spaces for 12 cubs and 24 scouts.

Anyone interested can call Sam Glaysher on 880088.
