GARDEN lovers had a field day in Robin Hood's Bay and Fylingthorpe when they were able to visit a variety of local gardens and help towards raising money for charity.
The villages held their annual open gardens’ day with 24 gardens on view.
The event was in aid of Whitby and Ryedale Alzheimers’ Society and organiser Sue Tucker said: “We had about 250 people coming to see the gardens throughout the day and some were people who had been in previous years.
“There was a wide variety of plants to see of all shapes and sizes as well as sculptures including dolphins that appeared to be swimming through the grass, deer, rabbits and owls.
“We had gorgeous weather and it was a lovely atmosphere. It’s all about raising awareness of Alzheimers’ as much as raising money.
“Originally we intended to do it just once but each year it keeps growing and people like to come back and see the changes in the gardens.
“And we get more offers from people to open their gardens.
“It’s a really good community event and I’m grateful to everyone who supported it, opened their gardens and donated prizes for the tombola. I was totally overwhelmed by people’s generosity.”
The event raised a total of £2,000 for the local branch’s fund.
An Alzheimers carers’ group meets in Whitby library on the first Monday in each month from 1pm to 3pm and anyone interested is welcome to attend.
