THE September meeting was opened by Beryl Thompson and the minutes were read by Chris Hebron.
Members were reminded of the autumn council meeting at Easingwold on Saturday 10 October, a visit to Harrogate Christmas craft fair organised by Ruswarp WI and the Goole Waterway and Fairburn Ings trip.
Members were asked to put their names to any o
f the three federation Christmas lunches, various plays and the carol service at York on 12 December.
The group rally will be held on Tuesday 15 September and Spantons will be giving an autumn fashion show and volunteers were needed to provide savoury food and raffle prizes.
Sandwiches and prizes were also needed for a dominoes drive on Sunday 20 September at 8pm at the Fylingdales Inn. The WI dance will be held at Sneaton Village Hall at 8pm on 23 October, music by Night Owl, a faith supper and will cost £2.50.
Birthday flowers were presented to Helen Innes.
The Christmas lunch will be at Fledglings, date to be arranged and the annual lunch will be at the Hare and Hounds on 13 January.
A craft afternoon will be at Wibury on Tuesday 15 September, 2-4pm, cost £1, all welcome to bring knitting, embroidery etc.
The winners of the competition for a photograph through an opening were 1 Elizabeth Tindall and 2 Ann Edley.
The speaker, Mr Pickard, gave a talk on visual persuasion, about the way we see and take in visual images and he used a lap to illustrate his points. After answering questions he was thanked by the president.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 13 October and it will be a mini show and Mr D Welford will give a talk and slideshow of birds. The competition will be for a bird ornament.
Visitors are welcome at a cost of £3 and anyone wishing to join Hawsker WI from the Whitby area can contact Chris Hebron on 605973.
