THE November meeting was opened by the president and Jan Ward was welcomed as teller. Minutes of the last meeting were read.
All members received their hyacinth bulb and growing medium to grow for next March's competition.
The WI dance raised £84 for Hawsker WI funds. Christmas lunches were discussed and two theatre visits were planned. The group was invited to a dominoes
drive at Hinderwell and the craft group were meeting at Wibury. The room will be opened for refreshments between 11am-3pm during the Victorian Weekend at Robin Hood's Bay on 5 and 6 December.
Those going to the carol service at York were asked to meet at the village hall at 8.40am on 12 December.
Extra raffle prizes and food were requested for the meeting on 8 December when members will be entertained by the Men of Staithes Singers. This is an open meeting and visitors are welcome, cost £3 to include refreshments.
Hazel Dixon reported as treasurer that the group was still in a financially sound position. Secretary Chris Hebron summarised the previous year's activities, outings and gave a resume on the speakers who had entertained members. She was thanked by the president for being a superb secretary doing sterling work. Competition and bulb show prizes were awarded to winners and the winner of the Maud Dixon Cup was Hazel Dixon. Jean Ward officiated in the election and Beryl Thompson was re-elected as president.
Birthday flowers were given to Ruth Nightingale, Vera Smith and Elizabeth Tindall. Winners of the competition for four chocolate truffles were, 1 Chris Hebron, 2 Pat Bulmer. Next month's competition is a Christmas Cracker (own work). The next meeting is on Tuesday 8 December. Anyone wishing to join Hawsker WI from the Whitby area should contact Chris Hebron on 605973.
