THE August meeting was opened by Beryl Thompson and the minutes were read by Mary Cummins.
Members were reminded of the visit to Drax Power Station, the autumn council meeting on Saturday 10 October and the Goole Waterway and Fairburn Ings trip.
The group rally will be held on 15 September and Spantons will be giving an autumn fashion show.
Birthday flowers were presented to Rita Stubbs and Olwyn Smith. Winners of the competition for a brass bell were 1 Hazel Dixon, 2 Olive Tordoff.
The speaker, Mr Carter, had requested members to each bring an antique and used them to give an informative talk on what an antique was, how to recognise hallmarks and differentiate between silver and various forms of silver plating. After answering questions he was thanked by the president.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 8 September and Mr M Pichard will give a talk (Visual Persuasion), the competition will be a photograph through an opening.
Visitors are welcome at a cost of £3 and anyone wishing to join Hawsker WI from the Whitby area can contact Chris Hebron on 605973.
